A New Deck (finishing)

Composite goes down incredibly easy. There are a variety of ways to attach it to the frame. You can drill right through it, or you can use different methods to attach it without showing, which is what we decided.

Each brand is different, but they are probably all very similar. The nice thing about it is that the whole surface stays smooth and clean. We really like that about our new deck.

Railing also presented a lot of different options. There is composite railing, vinyl railing, iron railing, wood railing and probably other variations that I'm missing. In my view, the price of each of those options goes in the same order depending on what you want to do. We opted for iron both on price and looks. In fact, originally we thought it would be more expensive than some of the other options, so we were happily surprised for find that wasn't the case.

It took several days to get all of the railing on. The deck was fairly easy but the angle of the stairs presented a challenge.

We also decided that we wanted to add the composite to the edges of the deck to give it a finished look all around. I think it looks really good that way. A nice coat of paint also helps tie it into the house.
